Wretched Verses Issue 4: The Ritual
The Red RoomIn this scenario, the PCs take the roles of agents of the Criminal Brigade tasked with investigating a sensitive case: The abduction of a wealthy family's only child. It should take place in late 19th century or early 20th century Paris, as in most Wretched Époque scenarios.

Bottom Line Up Front:
-Concise and Easy to Digest
-Character Portraits for NPCs help build immersion
-A decent GM can really sell the plot twist with advanced reading
This is another hit from Silvia and Miguel. It’s an absolute must if you like Wretched Epoque or Call of Cthulhu scenarios. I think the adult themes are handled tastefully in this humble but cunning adventure.
I highly recommend GMs give this a thorough read through to familiarize yourself with the characters and the plot, but this concise but effective story makes for a great one shot. A perfect primer to get your friends into RPGs if they’ve ever shown an inkling for murder mystery and thriller movies. With a lot more focus of social intrigue and sleuthing out clues, a novice GM could run this with little difficulty. An experienced GM can really sell the intertwining relationships between the well thought out NPCs.
The overall writing leaves the scenario relatively system agnostic, with the crescendo scenario being fit for any OSR or popular d20 game compatible rules. That stat block is simple enough to adapt to other games as well. For obvious reasons, the game runs better when used with the Wretched core rule book, but if you’ve already picked up Wretched Epoque, this is an easy grab.
My take aways are:
-Any good RPG can always use more maps. I love the mansion map, especially included as a separate download
-I do miss Silvia’s pregen character’s in this issue, but the format is intentionally smaller/ I recommend picking up another Wretched Epoque book and using characters out of that for first time players using this scenario. You cannot go wrong there
